Opening ceremony of the World Exhibition EXPO 2005, Aichi.

Ms. V. Povilionienė’s and Mr. P. Vyšniauskas’s concert is held in the hall of Azabu Civic Center in Tokyo. Attendants: Mr. Arūnas Kundrotas, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and Dr. Algirdas Kudzys, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan.

April 21

The Minister of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Arūnas Kundrotas visits Toyohashi city, meets with Mr. Hayakawa, mayor of the city,  and visits    Life Port cultural center and the city‘s waste recycling company.Ms. V. Povilionienė’s and Mr. P. Vyšniauskas’s concert is held in the United Nations pavilion. On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, a reception takes place in the Lithuanian pavilion.  Attendants: Mr. Arūnas Kundrotas, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and Dr. Algirdas Kudzys, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan.

April 22

Mr. Arūnas Kundrotas, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, Dr. Algirdas Kudzys, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan, and Mr. Romas Jankauskas, Commissioner General of the Lithuanian exposition in world exhibition, together with the Lithuanian artists visit the Gifu Prefecture in Yaotsu city, where a great humanist Mr. Chiune Sugihara was born and raised.The Earth Day is commemorated in the world exhibition. Mr. Rimantas Braziulis, the Chairperson of the Lithuanian Green Movement, and Mr. Laimutis Budrys, Director of the Nature Protection Department of the Ministry of Environment, participate in the events. On this occasion, the Lithuanian folk artists Ms. Adelija Mickuvienė and Leokadija Šalkovska present the art of decorating Easter eggs and making Easter palms in the Lithuanian pavilion.

Ms. V. Povilionienė’s and Mr. P. Vyšniauskas’s concert is held beside the Lithuanian pavilion and at the stage for cultural events of the 4th section.

May

May 1 – 9

The European Union week at the exhibition takes place. The stamps are put on the page of the symbolic EU passports, the information about the European Union is provided and the raffle, the main prize of which is a trip to Brussels, takes place in the pavilions of the EU member states. The boy, who got the tenth stamp allowing him to apply for a raffle exactly in the Lithuanian pavilion, wins the prize.

May 24 – 28

The Bio-Robots show takes place in the Lithuanian pavilion. Performance of Robo Dance dancers Mr. V. Linauskas and Ms. I Mačiulytė. 

June

June 6 – 20

The common Japanese and Lithuanian project „Village of arts“ (project manager  - Mr. Sumiko Ando) is presented beside the Lithuanian pavilion. The works of the Lithuanian artists Mr. Kęstutis Lanauskas and Ms. Eglė Mickevičiūtė, created in Japan, are exhibited for two weeks.

July 4

In Tokyo Mr. Algirdas Brazauskas, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania is received by His Excellency Imperator and Prime Minister of Japan J. Koizumi.

July 5
 
Delegation, led by Mr. Algirdas Brazauskas, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, visits Toyohashi city, meets with the heads of this city, gets acquainted with the waste recycling system of this city, surveys the motor vehicle exporting and importing port of Mikawa and visits the headquarters of Toyota company in Tokyo city.

July 6

The National Day ceremony takes place in the EXPO Dome.Gala concert takes place in the EXPO Dome.
The young Lithuanian orchestral players (conductor – Mr. M. Pitrėnas), choir “Brevis”, folk music ensemble “Vija”, folk group “Sutaras”, Lithuanian Jazz Trio (head – Mr. L. Šinkarenko) and the solo singers, already well known in the world and Japan, Mr. V. Čepinskis, Ms. G. Gedvilaitė, Ms. J. Gedmintaitė, Mr. E. Montvidas, Ms. E. Špokaitė and Mr. N. Juška perform in the National Day ceremony and Gala concert. The national Lithuanian bird stork has been chosen as a symbol for the cultural programme and as a stamp mark of the Lithuanian pavilion as well.  The Japanese children fold paper cranes and Lithuanian children have folded thousands of paper storks for the participants of the National day ceremony.  The concerts are held at the stage of cultural events and beside the Lithuanian pavilion.
On the occasion of the National Day, the American Lithuanian folk music group “Spindulys” from Los Angeles (head - Ms. Danguolė Varnienė ) gives a concert together with the artists from Lithuania in the exhibition. Reception takes place in the Lithuanian pavilion. Aich Welcome Night.

July 7

Concert of the Lithuanian art masters is held in the Toyohashi Life Port cultural center.

July 8 – 17

“Sutaro” concert is held beside the Lithuanian pavilion.

August

August 17 – 22

Concerts of Alytus song and dance ensemble “Dainava” beside the Lithuanian pavilion.

August 18 – 28

Exposition and demonstration of the works of folk artists Ms. Birutė Janavičienė (woven sashes) and Mr. Klaidas Navickas (cut patterns) beside the Lithuanian pavilion.

August 22

Lecture of the Japanese architect Mr. Nozaki about the wooden sacramental architecture in Lithuania in the Rotary hall at 11:00.Presentation of cinema „Felt in Love with Lithuania“(author and artistic director – Mr. Arvydas Barysas) takes place in the Rotary hall at 12:00.Commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Mr. M.K. Čiurlionis is held.
Concert of Mr. M. K. Čiurlionis quartet and lecture of Prof. V. Landsbergis take place in the Rotary hall at 14:00.

August 23

Presentation of Lithuania as a country of basketball.
Attendants: National Lithuanian men’s basketball II team, basketball player Mr.  Šarūnas Marčiulionis, Lithuanian Ambassador to Japan Mr .Algirdas Kudzys and representatives of the Japanese Basketball Federation.  The Lithuanian TV star Mr. Fumito Tamoi is a presenter of the event (beginning at 14:00).

August 24

Commemoriation of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Mr. M.K. Čiurlionis.
Concert of Mr. M. K. Čiurlionis quartet and introduction speech of Prof. V. Landsbergis in the theatre of the United Nations pavilion (beginning at 17:00).August 27In memoriam of the Japanese diplomat Mr. Chiune Sugihara.
The event takes place in the Rotary hall in the EXPO village. Attendants: daughter-in-law and other relatives of the diplomat and representatives of the Yaotsu city, Sugihara’s house in Kaunas and foundation “Diplomats for Life” (beginning at 11:00)
